ABOUT THE FOUNDER
I am Sophie Kaseregenyi, a female human rights lawyer from Uganda and founder of Feeble Care Uganda, I hold a bachelor of laws degree (LL. B) from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda (1998).
While at law school, I volunteered at the Legal Aid Project of Uganda Law Society, an organisation that offers free legal services to indigent persons in Uganda (1996-1998). I also worked as acting administrator of the Uganda Law Society (1998).
After LL. B, I undertook the post graduate bar course at the law development centre, tragically, short of two months to graduation, I suffered a debilitating bathroom accident that left me in a wheelchair. I couldn’t continue to pursue my career to the fullest especially due to architectural barriers. The lecture rooms were inaccessible to a wheel chair user.
Painfully, my career was cut short. This was the first injustice and challenge I suffered as a wheel chair user. I was traumatised, because I was excluded and therefore left behind. It is against this background that I founded an organisation called Sophgenyi Feeble Care Initiative (Feeble Care Uganda), a not-for-profit organisation, with a vision to transform lives of persons with disability within their communities. We advocate for inclusion, basing on the principles of Leave No One Behind and Nothing about Us without Us.
